SAN JOSE -- Lara Networks Inc. here today announced it has acquired two-year-old WarpCom Technologies Inc., also of San Jose, to expand its network processor offering in Internet protocol-based packet-switching applications over high-speed Ethernet systems.

Initially, Lara Networks will focus WarpCom's technology on supporting Internet applications using 1 Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet networks. Future products will provide support for Internet access over Sonet protocols.

Three-year-old Lara Networks said the acquisition moves it's a step closer to becoming a broad-based supplier of ICs for networking solutions in the Internet infrastructure market. WarpCom's technology will be coupled with Lara Network's network processor platforms.

" This is a significant acquisition for Lara as it enables us to quickly enter the fast growing broadband switching market," said Jayan Ramankutty, president and chief operating officer of Lara Networks. Financial details of the acquisition were not released.
