Siemens Selects Virata's Helium Chips for Its Second Major DSL Contract With Deutsche Telekom
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Virata(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTA) today announced that Siemens AG Information and Communication Networks Group has selected Virata's Helium(TM) chip for its second major contract with Deutsche Telekom for volume-deployment of Siemen's XpressLink access system. According to a Siemens press release issued on August 3, 2000, the deal with Deutsche Telekom is valued at several hundred million dollars.

"We are delighted with this second long-term win with Siemens and Deutsche Telekom, which further extends Virata's presence in the growing European market," said Charles Cotton, chief executive officer of Virata. "We are pleased to extend our relationship with Siemens and to see our products selected for high-volume deployments worldwide. Moving forward, we intend to maintain our leadership position through unsurpassed service and support as well as further new product introductions."

"We selected Virata technology because it continues to deliver excellent performance at a competitive price and it offers one of the richest feature sets available in the market," said Albrecht Baur, president of the Broadband Access Division of Siemens Information and Communication Networks Group.
