I guess they got tired of waiting for those AMD Muskrat and SludgePumper servers !

Isn't Fujitsu the Main Partner of AMD for Flash production?

Amdahl Introduces PRIMERGY -- a New Line of IA Servers
Fujitsu Group Establishes Single IA Server Brand
Amdahl Introduces New PRIMERGY Models

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 8, 2000--Amdahl Corporation, a member of the worldwide Fujitsu group of companies, today introduced the PRIMERGY® branding of its Intel® based servers. The brand change to PRIMERGY heralds a move to full standardization across the many companies of the Fujitsu Group.

Several worldwide Fujitsu Group companies were marketing different brands in their various geographic regions. Fujitsu Ltd. and Amdahl marketed the teamserver(TM) brand in Asia and North America. In Europe, Fujitsu Siemens Computers (FSC) offered servers under the PRIMERGY brand. Fujitsu Ltd. and FSC agreed to merge their product development and product brands creating a strengthened brand image and greater market presence. Soon, global enterprises will be able to source the same PRIMERGY server from Fujitsu Ltd., Amdahl, or Fujitsu Siemens Computers.

``Before the Internet, having different product brands in different regional markets was not a major issue,'' said Tatsushi Miyazawa, senior vice president and group president, Computer Systems Division, Fujitsu Limited. ``But now with worldwide configure-to-order delivery systems and the necessary economies of scale needed to meet the demands of Web-savvy customers, product brand standardization has become essential even for the largest companies.''

Customers, channel partners, and independent software vendors will benefit from the combined strength of the members of the Fujitsu Group. They will receive high levels of support provided by skilled server specialists; the inherent power of combined engineering, production, compatibility, and certification testing; a growing worldwide customer base; and proven data center know-how with extensive project management expertise.

As well as making it easier for customers to recognize its high-quality servers, the Fujitsu Group will use the PRIMERGY brand to ensure maximum effectiveness from worldwide and regional promotional campaigns, commonality of Web sites, benchmark successes, and application certification strategies.

A New Line of PRIMERGY Servers

Amdahl is offering a full range of PRIMERGY servers from entry-level 1-way LAN, Print, and Small Workgroup servers to large 8-way data center servers. As a natural extension to this range and for applications requiring leading-edge performance, Amdahl plans to deliver Intel IA64-based PRIMERGY servers next year.

LAN, Print, and Small Workgroup Servers -- Where price/performance and a compact desk-side footprint are important, Amdahl offers the PRIMERGY ES200 and ES210 servers starting at $1,799.

Workgroup Server -- For customers who desire the convenience of desk-side or rack-mounted servers with a larger internal disk capacity, Amdahl offers the PRIMERGY ES280. Beginning at an attractive $2,349, this server delivers the leading reliability and availability characteristics sought after for use as a small e-business or Intranet server.

Departmental Server -- For higher throughput, more reliability, and an abundance of hot-plug features, Amdahl offers the PRIMERGY MS380. Ideal for database, CRM, or data warehousing applications, the base configuration starts at $2,949.

Enterprise Server -- Designed for important business-to-business functions, the PRIMERGY MS610 4-way Xeon(TM)-based server is an affordable yet high-performance solution. With a base price of $6,399, this server delivers increased responsiveness, high availability, and the latest Ultra 160 storage connectivity that customers require.

Data Center Server -- The powerful 700 MHz 8-way Xeon-based PRIMERGY HS910 is aimed at the fast growing market for database applications and data center consolidation tasks. Designed for the highest availability, greatest reliability, and vast storage connectivity, the rack-mountable HS910 is available in September at a base price of $23,999. The PRIMERGY HS910 is similar to the PRIMERGY N800 offered by FSC, which recently set a new TPC-C record running Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Data Center Server. With highly regarded maintenance and operational services from Amdahl's Services Division, internationally recognized management consulting from DMR Consulting Group, and a broad line of leading-edge open storage products from the Amdahl Technology Division, Amdahl stands ready to deliver a PRIMERGY based solution to meet the broadest spectrum of customer requirements.

``The PRIMERGY brand already has broad acceptance in Europe and is quickly gaining acceptance in Asia. With Amdahl's highly regarded data center expertise and customer focus, PRIMERGY will soon be a well-recognized global brand,'' said Carol Stone, vice president, Server Marketing at Amdahl. ``By integrating servers, storage, services, and consulting to provide highly cost-effective e-business solutions, Amdahl is well-positioned to help customers attain higher levels of business success and profitability.''
