Metals exchange sets date

The Intercontinental Exchange, the Atlanta-based exchange aiming to trade over-the-counter metals and energy derivatives and backed by some of the world's largest energy and investment banking groups, will start operations on August 24.

Jeffrey Sprecher, chief executive, said that in addition to the 13 founding members - who also hold equity in the exchange - he expected a number of other market participants to be connected to the electronic trading system by the time it goes live.
