CPN was selling in that $69 range last week. It had been at 77 or so, then a couple weeks ago they announced they'd filed to sell new shares, and it dropped into a high 60s to low 70s range for a while. Then it shot up after the Credit Suisse reaffirmation of their strong buy. But, the $69 price would imply that either they sold it all before the Credit Suisse announcement, or that they made some deal with institutional investors?

CPN had 127 Million shares outstanding as of March 31. They've tended to issue new shares fairly frequently, from what I can see in the WSJ charts. Four years ago there were only 42 Million shares. So, that's why Earnings per share has risen "just" 50% per year, while actual income has risen about 90% per year.

I guess it's a formula that's worked well for them, so we can probably expect them to continue. They spend a lot of money on investment in new technology, it appears. I visited their web site: calpine.com .
