Though not a CSCO shareholder (never so far), it made me curious. I looked a bit further, and note that the amortization of goodwill and the purchased in-process R&D from acquisitions is multiples higher this year than last. NOT having the $461 million in purchased in-process R&D, for example, would alone have made nearly half a billion dollar better picture on the bottom line. This is a one-time number...unless CSCO continues to grow/run its business with non-accretive (in the short term) acquisitions.

I haven't looked, but doubt that its revenue line was affected much by the acquisitions (you know how it is, many of these acquired firms are newbies with little in the way of revs) but certainly has had a big effect on the expenses.

Because I haven't looked deep into it yet, this is just a thought...
