We won't upgrade our home 486 CPQ presario because we don't need to do it. As far as I know my husband can write C code on it, and when he needs more powerful computers, he simply dials a number at work that will connect him to his Sun workstation and other powerful computers.

He doesn't want to be bothered with another Windows clone, like Dell, Gateway or CPQ, HWP or whatever. When he puts a new computer system into our home, I believe that he wants to put in a Sun workstation because you get the Sun architecture in the low-end work stations at a very reasonable price.

He's worked all day. He's in bed so I can't ask him what you get in a Sun workstation, but if you go to the Sun thread, I am sure that there are many people who can tell you. He is especially happy with the graphics on his Sun work station. By contrast, he also has an HWP workstation that has been assigned to him at another office where he works. I haven't heard him rave about his HWP workstation, but perhaps that is because it doesn't meet his needs.

Right now, he sets up his new low-end Sun workstation.

Dell sells direct, you're thinking of a Gateway type of model.

And so does Sun. He ordered his workstation directly from Sun. And it cost less than $1,500.00

Excuse me, but why do you need a Ultra Spar III for your home PC. Is that a server or a workstation. If you think you need it, I won't argue with you, but my husband is happy with his low-end model. I'll have to ask him which model he bought, or I should say his employer bought.

This is a non-issue though. The real problem is why are all of the competitors' servers getting faster while Sun's
are not?

Chic, let's get this straight. You talk about servers. And I talk about workstations. Are they the same thing?
