Mephisto, as a former network engineer I will give you my opinion on this - most people who buy their PC's at Comp USA or any other walk in store are: 1)either too dumb to use Unix productively, 2)have no use for it, 3)have very little idea of what Unix is, or 4)a combination of the above. So ask yourself WHY these boxes would be bought all of a sudden...maybe if they were painted funky colors like the iMac? -ggg-

People that know Unix and want a workstation know how to get one, and they don't shop in computer stores. Many extremely suitable used Unix/Sun boxes can be had on Ebay cheaply, that is where most of my former coworkers got theirs for their home networks, experiments, firewalls, etc. Very few people need a new top of the line Sparc for personal use. I don't see this as a very productive potential revenue source for Sun.
