Netro Qualifies NEL America for Production of Customer Terminals
August 9, 2000 08:32 AM Eastern Time
SAN JOSE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 9, 2000--

World's Sixth Largest Contract Manufacturer Reaches Milestone at Unprecedented Speed, Says Leader in Broadband Wireless Access Solutions

Netro Corporation NTRO , a leader in broadband wireless access solutions, today announced that NatSteel Electronics Group (NEL), the world's sixth largest contract manufacturer, has qualified and was chosen as manufacturing partner to produce two major product families for Netro's indoor subscriber terminal portion of the AirStar(TM) system. The milestone was accomplished in less than eight months, an unprecedented speed for these significant system components.

"A key part of our strategy is to partner with strong contract manufacturers which have the ability to come up to speed rapidly," said Man Wong, vice president of operations for Netro. "NEL has done an excellent job in qualifying to manufacture the subscriber terminals for two of our major family of products and has done so in record time. With such a track record, we look forward to qualifying this outstanding partner to build other parts of our AirStar system in the near future."

The AirStar system provides carriers and integrators with economical, broadband wireless access solutions into the 3.5, 10, 26, 28 (LMDS) and 39 GHz range. Using AirStar's wireless broadband access system, which is based on Netro's patented CellMac(TM) technology, customers are able to provide carrier class level, packet on-demand services that can enable both IP and voice service for the under-served small and medium-sized business market.

"NEL is excited to receive qualification in the manufacture of Netro's indoor subscriber terminal products," said Phil Sperr, general manager of NEL, Americas' Hillsboro, Ore., facility. "Our partnership with Netro is an example of our commitment to become a flexible, value-added supplier in North America."
