Hey spytrdr, get out and experience the world a bit eh? In fact, this writing instead of talking behavior can be observed in just about 100% of the young people in both Japan and NW Europe. Don't ask me why, but these kids (and some older people) seem to love writing messages instead of chatting. Even the radio stations have games using this technology.
