So while these companies all exhibit earning growth rates in the same ball park, DELL is clearly the better value from a PE standpoint.


jim, DELL isn't in SUNW or CSCO's league when it comes to earnings growth rates.

Last quarter, DELL had year over year earnings growth of less than 19%. The previous quarter earnings growth was less than 7%. The previous quarter earnings didn't grow at all--they declined. You have to go all the way back to the 2Q of fiscal 2000 to find earnings growth in that league. And even if DELL reports a blow out quarter of 24¢ tommorow, it still is 26% earnings growth. CSCO's growth was more than double that number.

edit: DELL fiscal Q3 was the quarter with the 7¢ extraordinary write off, so earnings from operations didn't actually decline, as I said above. Still earnings growth even if you discount the write off was 28%, still way under the earnings growth for CSCO or SUNW.
