Thats the entire concept.

The self canceling note is what makes the whole idea work. And conversely makes the strategy seem very aggressive to me. Theory is that the higher interest rate is consideration in lieu of guaranteed full loan repayment. Supposedly the IRS has a certain interest rate that they apply here.

If it works, it's a grand idea, if not he'll have hell to pay. Of course he'll also have hell to pay if he does nothing at all.

Maybe your thread can get more people thinking about estate taxes and how to plan around them. As you've said, a case can be made for not repealing the tax for those of vast wealth, but it is such a shame for a large farm owner or family business to get broken up due to failure to plan estate strategies.
