<<I followed that person to a well known religious thread, where I saw racism and hatred and intolerance and hypocracy of the first rank. It is one thing to be aware of all the slaughter than the world has seen in the name of religion. It is qite another thing to see it alive and growing like a poisonous mushroom.>>

It does appear that very religious folk can often demonstrate the most extreme hostility and hatred [as is indeed often evidenced right here on SI]....... As well as unusual compassion......... Clearly this is a generalization and should be considered as such.

But I submit to you that this is not a cause and effect relationship but the result of religion often attracting both the worst and best of humanity.......curious.........no?

What religion can do IMO is give power to said nasties... Thus permitting them to put into practice their natural tendencies....Just an observation ......Might be wrong....
