Jim, re XAU and VIX, within a shorter time window there is correlation (obviously not 100%), but the long-term trend is different. I think what they have in common is the fear factor, but fear tends to be a short-term phenomenon, especially in recent years. At the same time there are other factors affecting the XAU and VIX independently.
