Missing Durons located by Dean Kent? realworldtech.com

According to an informed source, despite
what was presented in the August 2000
Industry Update it seems that Durons are
selling very well in Asia. In fact, the claim is
that they are outselling TBirds by a 4-to-1
margin. This is in contrast to the sources
here in the U.S. (both resellers and
manufacturers), that said Durons were not
in demand.

There's also a bunch of stuff on the 64 bit disclosure there. On a less positive note,

After seeing an increasing number of
rumors about a P4 delay, we contacted a
large Tier 1 OEM to find out if there is any
truth to the rumor. According to them, Intel
just provided the pricing schedule, and did
not mention any delays, so a September
release date is being anticipated.

The speed grades will be 1.4GHz and
1.5GHz, with the Tier 1 pricing in 1000 unit
quantities at $625 and $795 respectively

I don't know about the above, it would undercut gigamine pricing by a ton. By pricewatch, it looks like it'd be about equivalent to the currently top generally available cumine, the 933. For a chip that's 60-70% bigger? And isn't supposed to be generally available till 2001? We'll see.

On another front:

This same source [ as the Duron info, not the P4 info] also said that Dell
reduced their DRDRAM orders from
Samsung by 60% in July. This would help
to explain the rapid decline in prices, as
suggested in the August Update. It seems
that Samsung has been making about 3.5
million chips per month, but is now
considering cutting that back to 2 million
per month by year end

Which, of course, is not at all consistent with any kind of a volume launch for P4 anytime soon. Who knows?

Cheers, Dan.
