Leland, good post.

I am trying to understand the potential problem you stated correctly. Assume we are all sitting in traffic in LA, which is a daily occurence, suddenly we see OJ's Bronco drive by and we all have the urge to pick up the phone and call everyone we know. If I have a CDMA phone, I will get a bunch of noise. But if I have a TDMA or GSM phone, the channels would probably be full and I will get a busy signal. Sounds like neither system would handle extreme situations well, just like the problems we have with POTS on every mother's day.

The question then is which system will handle more and at what quality. This returns us to the age old question about how much more capacity can CDMA handle versus TDMA. Now that PrimeCo and Sprint have laid their cards on the table, we should start to see some side by side comparisons pretty soon. If Frezza is proven right, QCOM may just be a ho-hum stock. If Jacobs is proven right, we can all retire in a year or two.

p.s. Clicked on your profile and saw your favorite quote. I agree. Take a look at the SI Bull/Bear Survey. I think you will be amused by the herd mentality. Finally, is your email at Stanford or SUNW or neither, just curious.
