Hi BT,

CDMA exclusivity + satellites does not make a monopoly. Just finished reading about the Chinese-American expedition up the K2 summit bordering China and Pakistan. It was sponsored by ACeS who supplied the Ericsson R190 sat phones to the team. We in the western world will not tolerate phone calls with GEO induced latency. But, do you think G* targeted Chinese customer will buy G* minutes at price 2x, 5x, 10x higher than what will be offered by ACeS just to avoid latency? I don't know the expected price of the ACeS minute, but they only needed 1 satellite to cover China, $500 million satellite + launch + ground stations. Costs a lot lower than G*. Due to the relative levels of wealth, I believe that G* has no choice to price competitively in those markets. Remember, G* is counting on the Chinese market to purchase significant minutes.
