Your friend ought to get on the school board and do something, if he really cares. That's not the way it is here. Of course we have many highly educated and rather militant parents in my town.

My daughter begins middle school this year. I went to meet all the core teachers and the band teacher. I know exactly what she will be doing next year. I have the phone numbers and emails of all the teachers. I went to all the orientation meetings. Was your friend similarly prepared about his son's schooling? Did he have any idea before the lad spoke up? You get what you know enough to ask for, or demand. It is the way of the world.
