A possibly ominous development for flash memory and digital cameras is Sony's new Digital Mavica MVC-CD1000 digital still camera which is described in the latest Wired. Instead of using expensive flash memory it burns its own 3.5 inch compact disks. Each CD holds 156 Mbytes, enough for 150 JPEG images, and costs about $4. They can be read immediately in any CD drive.
