Goldwater would have let the Pentagon run the war unlike LBJ who played little tin god and directed the war himself.


Defeating North Vietnam by itself was certainly achievable. But in doing so would we have ended up in another war with China (as we had over Korea)?

There's no way of knowing what Goldwater would have done.
