but if building a better mousetrap were all there is to it, everyone today would be using a unix box w/ Mac GUI instead of MS Windows.

not to say Windows is better, but when it comes down to it, users want the platform w/ the most common applications and availability. no one (other than superusers) really cares if whatever-Office is technically superior to MS Office; they only care that they are data and program compatible w/ the PC's they use at the office, or that their friends, relatives or neighbors use.

and traders like us don't care that institutional proprietary trading apps mostly run on unix boxes... what I care about is, does qcharts or esignal or tradestation run on Windows or Sun OS? does my brokers order entry app run on anything but Windows?
