<does Nextstep take more kindly to these files?>

Hi Stock Puppy (I still have the RDUS you loved a few
aeons back, by the way).

No, Nextstep is the same about lost files if you pull the
plug. Its unix. Moreover, it spots a corrupted file system
and takes FOREVER booting up first time after a powerdown
as it rebuilds filesystems.

Bill Gates vision of next generation of windows is `instant
on'. Not yet. But still win95 is almost instant compared
to Nexstep on the same hardware.

I think Nexstep engineers already grafted as much of the
useability of mac onto unix as they could (that was their
vision all these years) so dont think it wll be easy for
appl to do so much better. But its possible.

Microsoft have setup `wizards' in their system help that
steps you thru all system reconfigs. Its written for
techno-idiots. Thats what they'll need for every
single aspect of unix. By contrast unix and nextstep manuals
are full of highpowered computer jargon. Its a tough
challenge. The challenge for Mac was much easier; mac Os is much
simpler and specialised to tightly controlled hardware
configurations. Nextstep OS designed to be managed by an expert
in the background (while of course wonderfully simple to
use for the User who only sees icons and the GUI).

Oh and theres couple things that windows95 does better than
NextStep in their GUI. Yeah! I hope Rhapsody engineers take
a close look and learn:

- the concept of shortcuts and the `desktop' itself as a
kind of folder where you can drag folders and applications
onto, leave lying around like on your desk, is brilliant
and eliminates the NexSTep (or any other) file manager
entirely. That file manager was neat when I first saw it
(and better that windows Explorer of course) but you dont
need it.

Well, good luck guys and gals. I am excited about the
potential here.
