Bombardier Aerospace to Build Aircraft Assembly Facility at Mirabel

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--Bombardier Aerospace announced today that it
will invest approximately $170 million to build a final assembly
facility at Montreal's Mirabel airport for its 90-passenger
CRJ900* Series regional jetliner. In addition, due to the high
degree of commonality between the aircraft-and to support its
increasing regional jet production-the 70-passenger CRJ700*
aircraft will also be assembled at Mirabel.

Construction of the new facility in the Montreal foreign trade
zone at Mirabel is to begin in September and to be completed in
Spring 2001. Employment at Mirabel is expected to reach 1,700
persons by 2003.

"The continuing success of the Canadair Regional Jet(R) in airline
service is creating significant orders for new aircraft, requiring
us to increase production at our current facilities. The new
plant will give us the flexibility to meet our customers' delivery
requirements," said Mr. Michael Graff, president and chief
operating officer of Bombardier Aerospace.

"Mirabel is the logical choice for the new final assembly
facility. We will be able to keep our regional jet program
concentrated in the Montreal area, leveraging our existing support
resources, engineering, planning and our supply chain," Michael
Graff said.

Bombardier Aerospace formally launched its new CRJ900 Series
jetliner program in July at the Farnborough International air
show, on the strength of firm orders and letters of intent for 34
aircraft and options on a further 28 aircraft.

Together with the 50-passenger CRJ 100/200 and the 70-passenger
CRJ700 Series, which will see entry into revenue service in early
2001, the CRJ program order book totals more than 1,750 aircraft,
including 895 firm orders and 862 options. During the first seven
months of this calendar year, Bombardier Aerospace, signed more
firm orders for new regional aircraft than in all of 1999-itself a
record year. Production of the 50-seat CRJ aircraft will reach
100 this year at the Dorval plant, going to 135 units next year
and 150 the following year.
