Tim:

Wet blanket here.

My research into sleeping tight or otherwise came up with the origin of the phrase.

Once upon a time beds had no mattresses. They were just a pile of how many blankets one could afford (blankets might be called something else) and each morning the maid (or whoever) would actually remake the bed. This may explain why the princess was very much aware of a pea (I assume dried) beneath so many mattresses that actually were (probably) thin blankets). These beds were made by putting the blankets onto the frame made of wood. Stretched from side-to-side were ropes or thongs used to support the mattresses. Those ropes and/or thongs would loosen in time and had to be tightened so the bed would not sag overmuch. Hence the origin of "sleep tight."
