Cowgirl: Our place got hit by lightning last weekend. About $15,000 damage thus far. Living on a ridge line up high doesn't help. Have quite a bit of electronic stuff and computers with lot of lightning protection. My main computer, this big baby, the spouse unplugged it before it hit, even though this one is on a surge protector and backup power supply. She didn't get to one upstairs, also with surge protection, and it took the surge protector out. Fried it big time. Holly mentioned that many of the surge protectors will be replaced free.

Also, disconnect the phone lines. Can come in that way. It melted our phone lines. I even disconnect ground systems. With this new solid state stuff, a ground spike can take out all kinds of stuff.

Unfortunately, she didn't quite get finished with the massive routine we go through when lightning is here and a bunch of other stuff got zapped. When that stuff gets in your house, look out, you will be finding stuff for days that it blew up, arced across, burn marks, etc.
