Re: "Some sources said Rambus has escalated its campaign to obtain royalties from synchronous memory patents as Intel Corp. shift its memory strategy for Pentium 4 from only supporting Direct Rambus memories. As previously reported, Intel is developing its own chip set to support SDRAM memories for the next mainstream PC desktop Pentium 4, which is set to be unveiled in mid-2001."

This is a decided spin on what actually is RAMBUS' fiduciary duty to its stock holders. The RAMBUS patents that apply to DDR and SDRAM appear to have issued in March of this year. RAMBUS must have sent written notice of suspected infringement shortly thereafter because it could not do so before the patents issued. So the action of pursuing intellectual property rights with respect to SDRAM and DDR SDRAM has not been accelerated as a result of any shift in Intel's policy toward RDRAM but is the natural consequence of of the relevant patent issuing in March.

Moreover, RAMBUS has a fiduciary duty to pursue these infringements briskly and it seems that they doing what they are required to do.
