Scumbria,

In the mid 70's I was working (in Germany) for a company making high precision electronic weighing equipment. This was all in TTL and pre TMS1000, so our "mpu" was made from counters, flip flop latches, NAND and NOR gates. The clock was an RC oscillator with a circuit to square it off. one day whilst playing around with it, we double clocked it to about 1Mhz as I recall, but the circuit became unreliable due to the slow response time of the ttl logic.
Of course nothing was patented at the time, we just decided to to use both the rising and falling flanks as the trigger.
