Hi Rick.

Good site for IPO lockup expirations as well as much info on the actual IPO, shares let, major shareholders, etc.

ostman.com

Lockup expiration means that previously restricted shares (shares held by insiders, etc. that were restricted in that they could not be sold on the open market during the lockup period) are now free to be sold on the open market. Often these shares were purchased at a fraction of the current market price of the stock.

Sometimes this amounts to a large amount of shares (effectively doubling or tripling the float overnight) and if there happen to be a large number of sellers of previously locked up shares, it will effectively "flood the market" with shares. Supply and demand - price often depresses (many times temporarily) because the buying interest is not as strong as the new found selling interest.

That's how I understand it anyway!

:+)
