I am long CSCO in a major way (at least by my lights) and subscribe to the buy and hold philosophy. In other words, I have every reason to want to see CSCO continue to do well. However, I was just looking at some ratios and the numbers give me some cause for concern.

CSCO's P/E has gone from 72.4 to 152.9 from 7/99 to 7/00.
Meanwhile, its net margin has gone from 17.2 to 14.1 and its ROA from 15.1 to 14.2 in the same period. This is not a one year thing either. CSCO's margins and ROI numbers have been falling for a number of years.

So, please, someone, explain to me why I shouldn't lighten up on CSCO.
