A few other observations about Gottfried's chart of IC production vs wafer size (http://www.geocities.com/gottfried/msi.gif)

1. 75 mm dominated 5 years.
2. 100 mm dominated 8 years.
3. 150 mm dominated 8 years.
4. 200 mm is only in 3rd year of domination.
5. 125 mm was never dominant...perhaps the incremental improvement was not worth the investment compared to 150 and 200 mm technologies.
6. If this chart can be projected, 200 mm will dominate until 2005 and then 300 mm would last until 2013. It probably cannot be projected because the rate of technology change may shorten future cycles.
