-Did you ever meet anyone famous?

Could have and Should have!

Year: 1956 or there about
Location: Meridian, Mississippi
Annual Event: Jimmy Rodgers (father of country music) Memorial Day Celebration. This was the event of the year for all the country stars back then. They volunteered to perform. Many were discovered.......

There were free shows all over and on the out skirts of town.

My girlfriend and I (age 15)attended a theatre show featuring several singers among them was a guy by the name of Gary Williams, (First and last I have heard of him)as a young groupie I thought he was the greatest and gonna be a big star.

To make a long story short he and another gentleman were eating lunch at the Meridian Hotel. I just had to have his autograph and went over to ask him.....not wanting to hold up their lunch I did not ask the other guy...I was totally satisfied. My girlfriend went over and got autographs from both of the guys. Sometime later we were comparing our autographs and the one I failed to get was Elvis Presley. Just before he hit the BIG time.

Fame is an illusive thing -- here today, gone tomorrow. The fickle, shallow mob raises its heroes to the pinnacle of approval today and hurls them into oblivion tomorrow at the slightest whim; cheers today, hisses tomorrow; utter forgetfulness in a few months. -- Henry Miller

Elvis was (maybe is?) an exception!

Thanks Clappy fer asking!
