Darwin Gradual evolution to higher order by means of natural selection of the fittest to survive.

An important thing to realize when looking at Darwin's theory of Natural Selection is that he was a pioneer, and did not have access to the research and knowledge available today. None the less he developed the basic principals governing evolution.

Darwin knew nothing of genetics, or biochemistry. The best expert of the day Lord Kelvin proposed that the earth was between 10 and 100 million years old. He based this estimate on the amount of time it would take a molten bunch of rock and metals to cool to the temperature found in his day. Darwin made several proposals to fit the entire history of life on this planet both within the framework of evolution, and the timespan imposed upon it by Lord Kelvin's calculations.

The result was that Darwin proposed that each generation was an imperfect copy of the previous generation. Some changes to the copy would be good and some would be bad. The bad would die, the good would survive, and the next generation would be a little bit better. This is the gradual and continuous change that is often critisized by the facts.

Now we know that the DNA molecules which store the information of life, store it in a digital format. There is an exact sequence of paired acids which result in proteans which in turn result in the expected creature. The next generation is a very very good copy of the last. Variation is due to a mixture of genes between the male/female sex pairing and not from random changes. We also know that the earth cooled to a temperature that allowed liquid water about 4 billion years ago. The residual heat of radioactive elements fooled Lord Kelvin's calculations.
