I'm not sure I understand what point this is trying to make. Mutations generally arise one at a time. Those are then mixed and multiplied among future generations where additional mutations may be added. Very few plants or animals reproduce without mixing and spreading their genes and mutations around through the population. Species do not change in one giant jump, although when the circumstances are right the changes come quickly.
