Clappy...Best Play I ever saw in the stadium...Big Game (Cal/Stanferd), '82. That Bloody Elway got Stanfurd deep enuf in the final minute for Stanferd to kick a FG...he came up with some key 3 or 4 down plays. Stanfurd goes up by a few. Stanferd penalized 15 B4 the KickOff for XS celebrating, so they kick from about the 20 with 4 seconds left.
Cal gets the ball at about the 45, and starts upfield. Looked like Rugby, 5 laterals, the last one blindly over the head, to Kevin Moen, who ran thru the Stanferd band for the last 20 yards, bowling over a trombone player in the end zone. Flag on the field. Stanfurd penalized for too many players plus the band. TD counts, Cal wins, Elway whines,life was very, very good.
Joe Kapp was the coach. I saw his Vikes try the same thing against the Niners one day, but it didn't work.
