Mekjian: <excerpt> If [you have] supplier X, which is small, supplier Y, which is small, and supplier Z, which is small, they could collaborate.
Peterson: I'm going to buy this commodity. This is the description I'm going to buy. Anybody else buying the same thing, and can we pool our buy to get a better price and then we'll divide it up?
Mekjian: With the supplier and customer environment. That is not the same as GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota guys saying: "Hey are you guys going to go buy steel? Let's corner the market on steel." That's not what this is about, or for resins or any other raw material or even for any kind of major subassembly. That's not what this is about. Our organization does not do this kind of aggregation. That's what has the supplier base kind of wigged out, that this is coming down, and that's not the case. That's against the law. |
