Most fit or Most Prolific
Schutzenberger has shown Neodarwinian approach to origin of species to be Tautological (meaningless).
He states that all the hypotheses state is that the organism that survives has survived, or
said another way, the organism leaving the greatest number of progeny will survive. Able, hardworking,
intelligent people do not in general have the most children. same in the animal and plant world.
Rats are prolific and place higher animals in jeopardy for survival.

There are many strategies to survival. The creatures don't get to pick their favorite strategy, instead it is thrust upon them by the cold fact that they survived. A creature can be big, or it can be fast, not often both. Having lot's of children is a strategy, but only good if there is lots of food, and lots of children mean lots of food for a different strategy.
