Human Brain
12 billion cells with 120 trillion connections. Each cubic inch of the brain has 100 million cells
and 10,000 miles of fibers. If one million cells were connected in all possible ways in groups
of only 2 neurons = = 102783000 connections.
What a chance event! (and you thought the eye was tough!)

There are all sorts of creatures with billions of cells. The human brain is the pick of the litter, but the basic neural net connection pattern for storing dynamic information has been around for millions of years. Just think how many more millions of cells are in an elephant's nose than in a human nose. It's the same kind of thing, the selection pressures that humans went through emphasised brain cells and connections instead of nasal cells. Had conditions been different a few million years ago our species could easily have been half-witted and olfactorily enhanced, only we wouldn't be writing anything about it.
