This is a continuation of my last post. In this post I will talk about John Carosella’s presentation and how the Advanced Light Business will contribute to the bottom line.
I hope I got this stuff right, and if I did, the developments in this area could put JMAR on a different map.
First of all, John told me that the toughest decision he had to make was when Dr. Martinez offered him the job. Apparently he was in Minnesota after a big winter storm, looking out his window at all of the snow when the offer was made. The rest is history.
The development opportunities that lie ahead for the light division are virtually limitless. Just some of the many applications being looked at at this point include alignment of inkjet printing cartridges to the printing head. While most of this is unclear to me, I think they plan to use laser technology in the manufacturing process to position inkjet componets during assembly. I will try to get some more info in this area.
By far the most exciting thing I got from this presentation is the fact that JMAR is looking into the area of combining optical (light) technology with electrical technology.
Think about this. Light, when used in communication applications offers a tremendous bandwidth, and incredible speed. However when light is used in a communication system it must be converted to an electrical signal to interface with the rest of the computer world. JMAR light technology, used in conjunction with JMAR positioning technology could have incredible implications in this area. A brief description of how this may be developed was presented, however, some much information was presented, I was having a hard time digesting it all. I would love to go back out and spend the time with these guys that they really deserve. They had a lot of really cool things going on and they are really excited about them. (So am I).
Once again I would like to that the staff of JMAR for putting this presentation together. While I am know that Dennis Valentine was instrumental in setting the meeting up, it was the team effort that really made things shine.
I left the Torrey Pines Hilton with the feeling that the senior management staff at JMAR is an extremely competent group of talented scientists and officers of the company that is working very well together as a team and having a lot of fun doing it. It appeared to me that while Dr. Martinez is very effectively allowing each of the divisions to develop and implement their own business plans. These plans were designed to be complimentary, and they give JMAR a vertically integrated research, development and manufacturing company that is already a key player in the semiconductor industry. The only thing is that nobody realizes it yet…
I believe that individual efforts being made by each division are going to result in phenomenal success each within themselves. The combination of these efforts is going to paint a new picture for this company as a whole and possibly the entire industry. It is Dr. Martinez who clearly sees the big picture, and what a picture that is…
