Thanks for that post. That IMHO is an important post. It doesn't take many announcements like that to seriously legitimize StarOffice, which then has the effect of focussing a whole new variety of attention on Sun and its products.

Once again, however, it becomes incumbent upon Sun to back up the hype with execution. Star Office is known to be buggy, particularly with regard to its compatibility with MS Office documents. Budget makers have a hard time persuading themselves to fund improvements to the quality of a free product that "already works". Relying on the Open Source "community" to do your maintenance in a predictable timeframe is a crapshoot at best. This is a case where somebody has to have enough vision to see the real dollars associated with an initially intangible ROI situation.

But it's a very hopeful sign.
