Qualcomm Enters into License Agreement With Handspring
By Gretchen Hyman

SAN DIEGO--Telecommunications heavyweight Qualcomm Inc. has agreed to license its digital
wireless technology code division multiple access (CDMA) to Handspring, Inc., one of the
leading forces in the handheld computer industry. Under the terms of the royalty-bearing
agreement, Handspring will develop wireless solutions utilizing Qualcomm's CDMA air-interface
technologies and patents.

As the majority of companies that currently market handheld computing products are jumping
onto the wireless bandwagon, Qualcomm's CDMA technology will provide Handspring with the
ability to meet the growing demand for mobile access and develop and enhance its products for
wireless communications and mobile computing.

"Qualcomm is pleased to license its technology to Handspring," said Steve Altman, president of
Qualcomm Technology Alliances. "Handspring's leadership in developing innovative
wireless-ready handheld solutions further supports Qualcomm's vision of bringing innumerable
applications to consumers and businesses through CDMA-enabled devices. We look forward to
working with Handspring to help fuel the growth of CDMA worldwide."

Qualcomm is a leader in developing and delivering innovative digital wireless communications
products and services based on the company's CDMA digital technology. The company has
licensed its essential CDMA patent portfolio to more than 80 telecommunications equipment
manufacturers worldwide. Qualcomm's business areas currently include integrated CDMA
chipsets and system software, technology licensing, Eudora email software for Windows and
Macintosh, satellite-based systems, among others.
