Sledgehammer is expected to be as fast or faster than PIII. If Intel had two chips, that cost about the same, ran at about the same speed, and had about the same performance, which would you buy?

Intel made two mistakes about 5 years ago - one was rambus do or die, the other was planning that 64 bit will not be compatible with X86 and will be limited to servers until 2003.

They will have dumped rambus by early next year but the Itanic problem will take much longer to solve.
