F5 Networks Launches Performance-Leading EDGE-FX Cache

SEATTLE, Aug 14, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

New Web Cache Server Delivers Leadership Price/Performance,
Ease of Management, and Tight Integration With F5's
Industry Leading iTCM Products

F5 Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:FFIV), the leading provider of Internet traffic and
content management (iTCM) products, today announced EDGE-FX(TM) Cache.

As the newest member of F5's integrated suite of high performance iTCM products,
EDGE-FX Cache accelerates access to Internet content at leadership
price/performance. The product can be used as a standalone product or
implemented as an integrated component with one or more of F5's iTCM products --
delivering fast user response times, high throughput, and granular content
control. By introducing EDGE-FX Cache, F5 is in a leadership position to supply
complete end-to-end Content Delivery solutions.

"We're impressed with the initial performance testing results using F5's EDGE-FX
Cache servers," said Bill Sornsin, Chief Technology Officer at Rivals.com. "The
EDGE-FX Cache we put in our production site performed head and shoulders above
our existing cache servers, sustaining much higher concurrent connections and
data rates. The EDGE-FX Cache is superior in price/performance to other products
we've evaluated."

Tight Integration with F5's iTCM Products

With the introduction of EDGE-FX Cache, F5 extends its iTCM technology and
market leadership. Now, e-Businesses, Internet Service Providers, and Content
Delivery Network providers can look to a single partner for end-to-end iTCM
products and services to build their network infrastructure. EDGE-FX Cache works
as a standalone product, but when deployed with F5's other iTCM products, will
yield even greater benefits. EDGE-FX Cache will integrate synergistically with
all F5 products. Integration highlights include:

Integration with BIG-IP(R) Controller -- Provides automatic configuration of
EDGE-FX Caches, increased cache availability, intelligent local load balancing,
enhanced security, and increased cache farm scalability.

Integration with 3-DNS(R) Controller -- Delivers intelligent global cache load
balancing, high availability through network and site monitoring, and disaster
recovery for origin and edge sites with redundant site management.

Integration with GLOBAL-SITE(TM) Controller -- Enables e-Businesses of every
variety to update content on geographically dispersed sites -- smoothly and
quickly -- ensuring consistent content on every server, anywhere in the world.

Integration with SEE-IT(TM) Network Manager -- Provides a single management
point for multiple EDGE-FX Caches (along with BIG-IP, 3-DNS, and GLOBAL-SITE
controllers) distributed throughout the world.

EDGE-FX Cache highlights include:

Integration with the F5 product suite -- BIG-IP, 3-DNS, GLOBAL-SITE, and SEE-IT
for more streamlined configuration, management, and enhanced ease-of-use.

Price/performance leader -- Offers top throughput at a cost-effective price. In
performance testing, EDGE-FX Cache reaches well over 800 requests per second and
50 to 80 Mbps throughput.

Deployable in reverse, forward, and transparent proxy mode -- Flexible
deployment options conserve bandwidth and server resources while accelerating
content to end users.

"F5 has continually emphasized its expertise and focus on delivering products
that optimize the flow of Internet traffic and content; EDGE-FX Cache
demonstrates our commitment to provide an end-to-end, integrated family of
high-performance products," said Steve Goldman, Senior Vice-President of Sales,
Marketing and Services at F5 Networks. "Moving into the caching market is a
natural step for F5. It enables us to better address our customers' needs by
supplying them with integrated, modular building blocks to deploy high
performance content delivery networks. And, at 800 requests per second and a
price tag under $10,000, EDGE-FX's price-performance speaks for itself."

Pricing and Availability

EDGE-FX Cache will be available in September 2000 at an introductory price of
$9,990.

What the market is saying about EDGE-FX Cache

"With EDGE-FX Cache, F5 now has all the integrated components to manage Internet
traffic and move content out to the edge," said Eric Thompson, Senior Analyst,
Gartner Group/Dataquest. "The real value of caching is realized when you
integrate them with an Internet traffic management system to optimize overall
management and control of your network."

"The EGDE-FX Cache is the product we've been waiting for. It fits in with the
perfect solution sell, with its integration with F5's other iTCM products," says
Mr. Keith Hayashi, Manager, Tokyo Electron Limited Computer Networking
Department. "In fact, we've agreed to exclusively sell the EDGE-FX Cache because
of its superior price-performance and F5's excellent reputation for bringing
powerful solutions to the market."

"F5 Networks' products enable our company to better manage our network and truly
provide us with a competitive edge," said John Wall, Founder and CEO of
Vista.com. "Using EDGE-FX Cache has greatly enhanced our site's performance. By
adding EDGE-FX Cache to their product line -- with its high performance and low
price -- F5 leads the pack of the Content Delivery Network infrastructure
providers."

"F5 is headed in an excellent direction with EDGE-FX Cache and we appreciate
their attention to detail, particularly with respect to streaming media," said
John Brown, Vice-President of Engineering at Activate.net. "We like the notion
of keeping it all in the family because communication between all of F5's iTCM
products is an absolute key to optimize overall management and performance of
our network infrastructure."

"This announcement really doesn't come as a surprise to me since caching is a
perfect complement to F5's existing suite of iTCM products and is a logical
extension to their product mix," said Mark Hoover, President of Acuitive, Inc.
"Although there are other cache products in the market, the impressive
price/performance of EDGE-FX Cache and the integration between F5's other
products carries a lot of weight and makes it an attractive solution."
