To continue my response I have, in perusing a few texts on my lunch hour here at the medical library, found an interesting statement that some of you may want to throw around. From the book, "Breast Imaging," edited by Drs. Mary Ellen Peters, MD, Dawn R. Voegeli, MD, and Kathleen A. Scanlan, MD, published in 1989 by Churchill Livingstone Inc., we find the following on pg. 335 regarding what are termed false-negative mammograms: "Mammography has at least a 10% false-negative rate in the detection of carcinoma..." Thus it's clear that mammo's are missing a significant number of malignancies that CTI, if it is shown to be 96%+ sensitive by clinical trials submitted to the FDA, could pick up. I would suggest that CTI will not be an adjunct procedure for long once FDA approval is received. Look for a change in the guard as far as initial screenings are concerned.
