Handsets will proceed the infrastructure for 1X as the handsets are backward compatible with cdmaOne infrastructure. The supply of 1X handsets will soon require 1X technologies.

IMO, with the confusion at Verizon, NOK is skipping over the supply of tri mode handsets until they include 1X technologies. Nonetheless, NOK still has to hammer out an extended 3G contract with QCOM to make 3G handsets and infrastructure.
