--Aug. 14, 2000--Conseco, Inc. (NYSE:CNC - news) announced today that David K. Herzog will join the company on Sept. 1, 2000, as executive vice president, general counsel and secretary. Herzog, 44, currently is managing partner of the Indianapolis office of Baker & Daniels, one of Indiana's largest law firms.

Herzog joined Baker & Daniels in 1980. He has concentrated his practice in business and commercial litigation, representing a variety of corporations and individuals. Since 1996, he has also served on the firm's management committee and as chair of its finance subcommittee. He became the managing partner of the firm's 180-person office in Indianapolis in 1998.
Herzog is a graduate of Wabash College (A.B., summa cum laude) and Vanderbilt University Law School (J.D.), where he served on the Vanderbilt Law Review. He is a member and serves on the executive committee of the litigation section of the Indianapolis Bar Association; and is a member of the Indiana state, Seventh Circuit and American (litigation section) bar associations and Phi Beta Kappa. He is also a member of the Geist Christian Church and serves as Chair of its Board.
