I see the plot is thickening: nikkeibp.asiabiztech.com Intel says Direct RDRAM is the only viable solution for the next-generation PC main memory. On the other hand, it is reported that Intel is developing a chipset featuring support for PC133 RDRAM, along with the 850 chipset (development code name: Thehama) supporting Direct RDRAM, for Pentium 4, which comes after the Pentium III. Therefore, it might again be a possibility that the shift of PC main memory to Direct RDRAM will be delayed again. What kind of tactics will Rambus adopt to give priority to stockholders' profits under these circumstances? Tactics indeed. I haven't seen a ground war like this since Korea. Looks like INTC is damned if they do and damned if they don't. I assume that Gelsinger is going to be given command of the next Charge of the Light Brigade. :8) I wonder if IBM is enjoying this? I would think they would be rushing to sign on to the Drambus spotted line (That will be the new corporate name won't it?) just to assure that INTC gets a hoist up on that pitard,... or should I say "tar pitard"? (Hee:8) That LDT thing at AMD is looking better everyday. But I must say I like Transmeta's approach even better. When are they going to diversify and join AMD/INTC in the desktop wars? 'Aint competition a wonderful thing?! 0\|0 Oooops! The proverbial M&P question: Just how tough would it be to make an Controller Chip set with DRAM embedded? Or would it be more efficient to break off the memory controller function from the chip set and embed that in the DRAM?
