Hi Enum,
Welcome to the thread. You reviewed 1,000 posts? Yikes, you are a masochist.... <vbg>
Re: Does anyone know who manufactures the opto-electric converters that would be required to utilize FTTH? Frank C. is more familiar than I am with Optical Solutions, so you should direct any questions regarding that company toward him. The Set Top Box players to pay attention to are Motorola (who recently bought General Instruments) and Scientific Atlanta. On the ASIC and chipset side, BRCM, MOT and CNXT are players to watch.
Re: I've been reading a lot about how HDTVs high bandwidth requirements will pull demand for FTTH or FTTC, This, of course, is the classic "chicken or egg" question. Currently the chicken, HDTV, is selling for around 6 Big at my local Costco, with next to no programming available. The floor model has been on display for over a month and there have been no sales.
OTOH, satellite dishes affording a digital signal to older NTSC TVs via digitally-enabled STBs are selling like hot cakes.
Re: Any thoughts? Yeah, watch out for these bigots on the Dubya thread. Your discussion of Orthodox Jewry last February seems quite prescient at this time. As does Lieberman's comments last November on running on a mixed ticket as a VP candidate. That vision was of the Franken-Lieberman 2000 Comedy Party candidacy...... Mixing the reform and orthodox wings of the Jewish International Conspiracy.... poor RR, I don't think he thought it was funny...
And a question for you... How do you see the PHCM-SWCM merger impacting CLAC?
Best, Ray |
