didn't you hear? oil is not important anymore in the new economy.

Venezuela is already producing at capacity - what's important is what Saudi Arabia does, and to a lesser extent Kuwait, as those are the only two producers left with any spare capacity (which incidentally may well be a myth - at least the size of this spare capacity).
i think the selection of Lieberman as Gore's running mate may well provoke adverse reactions from these countries...all those mid-East regimes are inherently unstable. they will first and foremost be concerned with their own survival, not with what US consumites pay at the pump. the key player in this game is actually Iraq, which is already producing much less than originally advertised. i don't think that Chavez's little mid-East tour included Iraq for no good reason. something is afoot...the sudden drop in oil inventories lately may be a hint that the screws are being quietly tightened. i don't know Lieberman, and this is not a reflection upon his person on my part, but i am absolutely certain that the thought of having to potentially deal with a president Lieberman at some point in the future is anathema to the Arab oil producers.
