I agree, but the purchase date of PALM to insure long term gain will have to coincide with purchase date of COMS shares upon which cost basis was adjusted on 7/27 to reflect PALM shares and it's appropriate cost basis. So if you purchase COMS shares on 6/30/97 and sold spinned PALM on 8/14/00 I assume you should use the date of 6/30/97 to reflect PALM 'purchase trade date' to insure a long term gain....if you use the 7/27/00 spin date you would incur instead a short term gain.

I think this is correct...any accountants here?

Additionally, PALM have get impacted again,TOMORROW, by CPQ's BLACKBERRY's PDA....using RIMM O/S - instead of Win C/E as in previous model...other models have also be announced!!! Sorry, don't have details at this time. More competition for PALM...and price war could start to develop!
