Chuck Re...>><<<>>WHat is mind boggling to me is that people do not see the lack of infrastructure as a management failure. That's what I am saying the problem is.<<<
Chuck, it is easy to say anything; how about a little proof. It is easy to always blame management when you are in labor and vice versa, but as far as I know AMD management did cooperate with any and all companies which offered to make the chipsets, including sending engineers to help with designs and free licensing for AMD PROPRIETORY INFORMATION, as opposed to Intel who demands royalties. Secondly I heard the kx-133 had design problems; why is that a management problem; and why especially is that AMD's management problems. AMD bent over backwards to get chipsets from any qualified source, including designing their own 750 chipsets, which is available but not in high numbers. It was decided early on to let the chipset makers design the chipsets. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that decision. Fact is, there are very few manufacturers, no matter how big, who don't outsource, in fact the major auto manufacturers are outsourcing more every day. Intel, who happens to have 35 times the capitalization, is outsourcing more and more of their chipsets. All you are doing is p*ssing against the wind when you rail against outsourcing. Get with the modern times.
<<Comparing Hamemer wet dreams in Q4 to Duron ready and sitting in inventory in Q2? Are you this naive?<<<<<<
Maybe the Duron chip itself was in inventory but the chipsets and motherboards weren't. They take time. Why are you refusing to allow time for their development? Can you name me one chipset or motherboard which didn't need engineering and time to develop? Are you this naive to think these items can be developed in a day?
<< AMD should have planned a second source for PC133 chipset. Especially since it was clear from VIA's roadmap that VIA put Intel ahead of AMD. It was also clear that VIA had its own agenda to attack the low-end with its own processor. Now, think of it, what was AMD management thinking when it let VIA be the sole source for the PC133 chiset all this time? <<<<<<
What a laugh that statement is. First of all, AMD has a chipset, the 750 in production. Secondly I know of at least 4 other companies who were supposed to be developing chipsets, ALI, SIS,MICRON, HOTRAIL. AMD never gave Via exclusive rights to develop athlon chipsets.
<<<<The simple truth is that AMD left about million units woth of business in Q2. >>>>> Once again, these chips weren't destroyed, they will be sold for the x-mas rush. What is the difference? Secondly, more higher priced athlons were sold, did you count the extra income?
<< That you think that is the way it needs to be shows a serious lack of understanding of this business.<<
Gee, in my business I rely on my vendors, in fact I have no doubt that I would be broke if I didn't. We have a simple agreement. I don't scream or tell my vendors how to run their business and they don't tell me how to run mine. Period. If you ever come over to my business, and try to tell me how to run it, I would beat your arrogant a** to a bloody pulp and throw it out the door. Mind your own business and quit trying to tell everyone else how to do theirs. AMD HAS NO CONTROL OVER VIA,SIS,ALI or anyone else. Where do you get off suggesting AMD should; and how many vendors would be left if AMD did. Your statement shows a serious lack of trust in anyone; but many business can't do it all and have to trust someone. I need vendors, Intel needs vendors, Gm needs vendors, and I have no doubt, your boss needs vendors. Trust in them, believe in them and you will be better off. |
